Glad I could help on something, Chuks. Many thanks to you to Dokaben the great work and dedication. The subs were great. About the dance at the end, I think it might be a way to express what the characters were doing well in life. A funny kind of celebration, like the "Merci" taisso in 'Megane'. I loved this story, and I'd really like if they made a few more episodes!
Thanks again for the subs, Chuks, they really help me make progress towards that little island in Japan ;-)). For the dance, I agree with Alec -- it was a bit film school, but in line with the general relaxed tone of the four episodes. Kinda cute to see them break character like that.By the way, I have a question about the scene where the four friends are eating the meat. They're speaking about Taro and Yuki san, and Suda san says: 二人でさ、試しているんじゃないかな。In response, Yamada san calls him: お扇情親父, and everyone thinks this is hilarious. I realize that for the subtitles you couldn't explain everything, but his comment didn't seem that funny, and didn't seem to warrant "扇情". What am I missing?
Alec,I see. Interesting! When I was looking up on google, I found another video of Kobayashi Satomi dancing, and she was pretty good.Gankooyaji,I wonder where you got the お扇情親父. From Japanese sub? If so, the sub is wrong. Yamda said おセンチ親父.センチ is coming from センチメンタル.So the translation is just like the sub shows, "sentimental".This is the first time I saw the word, 扇情 so I looked it up.http://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/leaf/jn2/126517/m0u/I also googled to see the usage, and it looks like it is often used for sexual meaning.Anyway, 扇情的 is not very common.Hope that helps.ChuksChuks
Oh, I wasn't calling your translation into question (forgive me if you thought that), I was just wondering for my own knowledge. But on listening now, you are so right -- the Japanese subber (or voice recognition program) heard the チ + お as じょう. My ears aren't that attuned, I'm afraid (so my island fantasy might have to wait :-//). Thanks for setting me straight. Interesting that the Japanese subs can be wrong...
I really love this cast. Since I watched "Megane" I tried to watch all the movies from Ogigami Naoko, and then I discovered Matsumoto Kana, and later, Mika Omori ("Pool") two wonderful directors which has a very similar style to the message in her movies. It's not often that a group of actors blends so well with such naturalness, and I hope they still make many movies together. I recently found the soundtrack of this series, and interestingly is the same composer who did the soundtrack Megane. The songs are beautiful and incredibly positive and relaxing. Did you know where I can find more soundtracks of Japanese movies?
@Gankooyaji,Oh, no, I wasn't offended or anything. Even though I'm a Japanese, I can mishear lines or make mistakes.I just wanted to make sure I didn't make a mistake. As you might also tell, I omit some words to focus on the things need to be told and that can bug people who are trying to learn Japanese out of subs.Somebody else was pointing out the errors in Japanese subs too.I wonder why.I don't mind questions as long as it's about the dramas I subbed.:)@Alec,I never watched Megane. I watched the trailer of Pool.I don't know much of the directors, as I usually pick movies by actors. When I was looking up Megane, I found a movie called "Motherwater".Have you ever watched it?I'm gonna look for the torrent. It looks interesting. I like Koizumi Kyoko. No, I don't know where you grabbed the soundtracks. Jpopsuki?
Found the trailer of Mother water. It's directed by Omori Kana.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kDz38rN2E5IIt looks interesting.
Hi Chuks! Yes, I have the DVD of "Mother Water" and can tell you it's an excellent movie, with a very similar theme to "Soup To Pan ..."; the story revolves around characters who know and live in a city where there is a river and all have occupations that relate directly or indirectly with water. The main actors are the same, including the adorable Ichikawa Mikako and Koizumi Kyoko (I like her so much too). Now, "Pool" is a fabulous and sensible movie, but with a message a little more "serious" than the other films. I think the directors of these films (Ogigami, Omori and Matsumoto) are very similar in essence - always show the deepest values through simple everyday situations. Really worth watching all of them. If you cannot find them on the net, let me know and maybe we can work something out.
Alec,I'm slowly introduced to Ogigami, Omori and Matsumoto world.I just watched Kamome shokudo and am planning to watch Megane soon.Thank you for your offer! I'll let you know when I can't find it.
Hi, Chuks, it's Rootabega:Thank you for your wonderful efforts on Pan to Supu to Nekobiyori. This series gave me a feeling of gentle joy, especially at the end.BTW, I totally second Alec. I saw Mother Water in Kyoto a year ago, and I absolutely loved it. It's like Pan to Supu but even better as the feature length allows Omori to truly shine as an artist. It's not the same story, but there is a similar feeling as the same group of artists are involved. P.S. Don't know if you're in Japan right now, but my video rental copy came with Japanese subs. Still no eng subs to date, as far as I know. All the best in the new year!
@RootabegaI'm a big fun of the series now.(I don't know if I should call those movies series, but they sure feel like it.)So no Eng subs for Mother water out there? I haven't had a luck of finding the raw yet, but I'm sure I'll be interested to sub i if I ever get to it.
Hi Chuks!Thank you so much for subbing this wonderful series! I really enjoyed it and thinking about subbing into Hungarian. I hope it's okay. :DI'll definitely checking out the recommended movies! Actually I found the raw of Mother Water on asiantorrents! I hope its helps.Keep up the great work! :D
@czaffniThank you, I found the torrent! I did search there before, but I entered "Motherwater" instead of "Mother water" so I couldn't find it. I'll download it soon. Thanks, again!
Hi, I've got Mother Water on blu ray, but it has no English subtitles. I wouldn't mind ripping it to a decent enough size for you to download if you want to sub it.
